12/17/2007 - Here's where you get the new CD - http://cdbaby.com/cd/ddavenport2

CHECK IT OUT!!!!

12/7/2007 - Head to the Links page...what will you find? My new CD, "One Brother", on Digstation, ready for downloading. Yes, it isn't really really being released until 1/22/08, but it's my music, so I say, "open for business!"

The CD itself will be available on cdbaby.com very soon, as well...

12/6/2007 - The Burdons ROCK!!!!

11/12/2007 - I need help! You're going to hear that a lot over the next few months...I'll start of with something easy, and hopefully fun! Just head out to my site on MySpace (www.myspace.com/daviddavenport) and vote (in my blog) for which song you think I should include in a compilation CD being sent out from Oasis. I'm torn between three different songs. Tell me what you think, ok?

10/31/2007 - My new CD, after several weeks of work by the wonderful Jack Conners on the mixing and mastering of each song, is finished. In addition, Holly McBride's outstanding artwork and design is now finished, as well. I'm within days of sending the entire package off to Oasis to get pressed. Exciting times, indeed!

As a part of the internet maturation process I'm undertaking, I've created a fairly simple MySpace site. Check it out - www.myspace.com/daviddavenport - It is also on the Links page of this site.

The Hands are still rocking (this Friday, 11/2, in fact). Aces Wild has added a drummer and is getting busy pleasing oldies fans. It's shaping up to be a good winter.

And...big news...The Burdons are reuniting on December 1st and 2nd to play in the Garber H.S. auditorium for a 50th anniversary of Essexville-Hampton (MI) schools. After all these years, to be asked back is quite flattering. We are very excited to be playing these shows.

8/12/2007 - The CD is recorded....mixes are in progress, and mastering is soon to follow. The artwork is coming along (once again, Holly McBride is putting the packaging together), and features a photo or two by highly regarded photographer Laurie Tennent, a Detroit artist whose photographic artwork has been featured in museums and galleries in such esteemed art centers as Paris and New York.

The music is focused on the piano and voice this time around. The only exceptions will be on five tunes (of 16) that include bass and drums, handled by the top-flite duo of Jack Conners (also engineering and co-producing the CD) and "Murph". These fellows also happen to be the rhythm section for The Fabulous Horndogs, Northern Michigan's award winning funk and rockin' soul band. In addition, David Katz, who has a long resume filled with impressive session work, concert appearances, and a list of some of Chicago's best jazz and swing combos of the last 20 years, blows trumpet and flugelhorn on 3 tunes. Very cool sound.

So....catch the solo show, buy the CD, and support live music!!

The Hands are up and at 'em, adding gigs this fall, including September 22nd in Gilman, IL. With the strong lineup featuring the double whammy of Jeff Paxton and Joe Zaklan on guitars, this band really cooks. And we've turned down the volume. Honest....

Aces Wild Band put our old drummers back in their respective boxes. Nice fellas, but kind of lifeless....we've added a real, live, flesh and bones human, Rick Metz. On top of his fine playing, Rick adds another strong voice to what is already an outstanding vocal combo. If oldies are your thing, even for a night every so often, we're the band for you. Great selection of fun and interesting music performed well.

Good then.

6/5/2007 - Hello from beautiful Traverse City, Michigan, home of Interlochen. I'm working on my new CD here with the incomparable Jack Conners, and things couldn't be going more smoothly. Jack is great to work with and I'm just so relaxed that the music is flying out of me and onto the keys. Like any songwriter will tell you....when it's going well, you feel like a spectator, not a music creator. Awesome experience. Whether or not the music matches the event, that'll be for others to decide...

This CD will be quite different from The Big Machine. Whereas The Big Machine enjoyed the benefit of multiple guitars layered on top of complex arrangements, this CD will be far simpler, sonically. There will not be a single guitar, other than Jack's bass guitar. Drums and bass only appear on five tunes, at present. That could go up or down as I work out which songs make it past the initial recording on onto the disk. I will do backup vocals and add a few keyboard parts on some tunes, but not much. Don't let this fact have you thinking the music will be lilting tunes over flickering keys. If you know me at all, you know they'll still be hammered and passionate.

I just needed this CD to be more representative of what I sound like as a solo act, which is what this disk will be supporting.

Okay...more later!!!

Good then.
12/16/2006 - The website mysteriously went down and just as mysteriously is back up again. In true programmer fashion, I'm not going to figure out what happened, but just sit back and hope.
:-)

I have taken the opportunity to delete three years worth of stuff that I'd entered on the site in an effort to freshen things up.

Here's the new news: The Hands, a quintet that I assembled over the past 18 months, or so, has really begun to gather momentum, with several bars booking us for multiple engagements in early 2007 after our initial gigs in their establishments gave them an indication of the kind of quality music they can expect from us every night out. The Hands features an all star lineup of musicians including Chicago bluesman, Joe Zaklan on one guitar and the well-traveled Jeff Paxton (IL folks know him from Hip Pocket) on the other guitar. The drummer, Gary Erwin, and bassist, Rick Halberg, lay down a great dance groove that everything builds on. We have changed the focus of our set from a variety of styles to primarily blues and old R&B. It's a great combination and The Hands can really bring it. Check the Links page to connect to The Hands website. The address is http://www.thehandsband.com

The other band I play in (I've left Private Stock -- great guys but I had to pare down my schedule) is Aces Wild. I have a link to that site as well in the Links page. We play oldies and stick to smaller bars where we can just have a good time with a friendly audience that wants more of a variety and with less mayhem (volume!). We've been having a great time and expect we will once again at The Moose Lodge in Bloomington on NYE (members only, sorry). Check us out at http://www.aceswildband.com

CD prices have been slashed! Check out cdbaby.com for lower prices or come and see me perform live and walk away with a CD for $10.

INTERESTED IN HELPING OUT??? Send me a note. I'm looking for a business manager/booking agent.

12/22/2003 - Don't want to buy the entire CD? Here are some sites where individual tunes from The Big Machine can be downloaded for a small fee (all less than a dollar). Imagine creating your own CD from songs found online! I'm thinking, "Stairway to Heaven", "Hey Jude", "Born to Run", "Transition Man"....works for me.

There are another 130+ stations throughout the Midwest who are reviewing this CD (or looking for it!). So far, NONE have decided to Pass on playing it. That's big news.

One other note.... reviews of CDs on cdbaby.com are an important way for folks to get more info about the product that schmoes like me are trying to sell to them, and I have not a one (last I knew), though folks have been very positive in their remarks to me about TBM. If you see fit to do so, would you consider writing something up at cdbaby? It's blatant of me to ask, I know, but did any of you see 60 minutes this past Sunday? Do you see what we Indies are up against? Ya got no dough? Ya got no chance, unless you've got folks who'll help out here and there.

10/12/2003 - 9:43 p.m. - My EPK (Electronic Press Kit) is now linked to the Contacts Page of this site....check it out! It includes 3 complete songs if you'd like to hear them.

10/8/2003 - 12:10 a.m. - Thanks to all who came out to Gibson City, IL! I had a great time and before I even got off the stage was booked for this coming Saturday, the 11th. Check the Schedule page for details.

This Thursday, the 9th, I'll be playing an acoustic set at The Coffeehouse, in downtown Normal, IL. This will hopefully be the first of many shows that I play in this type of venue. I'm really looking forward to the stripped down format of this program. Now, if I can only remember the tunes...

See you there!

I'm in the middle of shipping 150 CDs to radio stations throughout the Midwest. I'll keep you posted on any activity I get on radio. I will create a list of stations with contact info if you'd like to call in and suggest they play a tune from The Big Machine. I sincerely appreciate any effort folks make to help me out with this project. Based on results so far, things are going very well!!

Good then.

9/23/2003 - 1:30 p.m. - What they're saying...

"the Gospel-like backing vocals will send shivers up your spine."
"one of the better CDs I've heard this year."

- REVIEW MAGAZINE (check the Links page!!)

"Man, you're great! Should I know you? Are you somebody famous?"

- Fellow singer/songwriter at the Just Plain Folks showcase in Chicago - 8/12/2003

9/18/2003 - 9:00 p.m. - Check Schedule for updates!

MAILING LIST??? - Goto my mailing list and add your name to the list. I'll add bargains, etc., for mailing list members.

9/17/2003 - 9:12 p.m. - I can't get my bookings updated. Some stupid server problem. So here's what I know:

10/4 - Gibson City, IL. Scooter's, 8th and Sangamon.
I'll be playing 2 sets, currently planned for 8 and 10 p.m. Each set will be one hour long, with entertainment provided by a full-sized band on an other stage in the club. It's the grand opening of Scooter's. Sounds like fun.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

9/9/2003 - 9:53 p.m. - Rosie's closed! This is not a good thing if you are me, because that's 2 gigs a month gone sayonara. Interesting new stuff happening...hooking up with legal rep, booking rep, and maybe more??? Keep checking, I will keep you posted.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

8/13/2003 - 2:25 a.m. - Got home a bit ago from the Just Plain Folks Songwriter's Showcase held at the Gallery Cabaret in Chicago. Outstanding group...a very talented group, too. Rode with my new musical buddy from Bloomington, Ron Lay, and had a great time working on the lyrics to a song I'm singing for my niece's wedding in Columbus, OH, this Saturday, August 16th. Both showcases I attended this week (the other is mentioned below - Bloomington, IL) were really cool and life (ok, music) affirming.

Good then...

Question of the week: Have you heard my CD? If you were to describe the content, what would you say (keep it clean, please)? Do I remind you of anyone? Ronald Reagan? Cher? PeeWee Herman?

On Sunday, August 10th, I helped Brian Austin Whitney host Central Illinois' first ever Just Plain Folks Songwriter Showcase event, held in Bloomington, IL, at Maguire's. It went great. Lots of folks from as far away as the Quad Cities, Chicago, and St. Louis.

Good then!!
